THE SIBLING
Our Scope
– Architectural Design and Service
Design
OCE 81’s younger sibling is located on a sandy beach, on the north side of Paradise Island, where the horizon is endless.
The client’s design brief was quite simple: “As beautiful as 81, but smaller”. The building actually consists of two parts with a single roof and a bridge that spans the living space and connects the building parts to form an L-shaped structure. The west wing aligns with the property line, opening up the angle of the “L”, to expand the view from the living room. The dining area is moved as far as possible towards the sea. It is the bow of the “ship”, where natural spectacles far out on the turquoise waters, become part of the staging. It opens a view to the pool deck and the other wing, due to the exposed location of the dining room. The same applies for the master bedroom, where three sides of the room are fully glazed, cantilevering and seemingly floating over the ocean.
Concept
Living can convey comfort and a feeling of security. But it also has to challenge our senses and sometimes evoke unexpected emotions. The large glass façades melt the conventional duality of inside and outside and allows the residents to experience with all their senses the ocean life. In fact a projection on the wall of the Living room exhibits digital kinetic art that is mapping the marine life passing by in front of the house.
