A HOUSE FOR A COUPLE AND ZORKA
Our Scope
– Architectural Design and Service
Nestled in the green dewy hills, bordered by forests, a lake and paddocks, the house is located on a slightly exposed area. From there a view over the farm and the surrounding landscape opens up. The harmonious connection between architecture and nature is manifested in the shape of a single-story building with a slightly sloping roof that takes up the long ridge axes of the surrounding agricultural buildings, in the materiality, through the use of sustainable building materials, and in its appearance, where the graying wooden facades harmoniously blends with the landscape.
The building is made of several single-storey volumes, which are carefully offset in order to protect the niches and terraces from the wind. The canopies over them serve as sun and rain protection. The ridge axis aligns to South-North and traces the internal circulation axis as the house entrance is located firmly in the North.
Architecture
Most of the building is oriented to the warm wide view of the forest to the southwest – the living room area, the dining area, and the two bedrooms. Nevertheless, the view to the northeast overlooks the horse pasture and it offers an additional delight – a view towards the rolling hills from the kitchen and a direct connection to a breakfast terrace.
The open plan kitchen-living room is in the center and reaches both terraces and the two bedrooms. The shifting of the volumes opens different outdoor spaces on all four facades, sometimes larger, usable as a terrace, sometimes smaller, as an entrance, or even as an eye-catcher at the end of the main interior axis. The displacement determines the shape of the building and its integration into the surrounding landscape.
